Invitations have been extended, and four Pennsylvania College of Technology athletic teams are headed to United States Collegiate Athletic Association national championships, according to Douglas Byerly, the college's director of athletics. This is the college's first year in the USCAA.

The Penn College men's soccer team (11-0 overall record) will compete Oct. 29-31 at Rochester College in Rochester Hills, Mich.; the Penn College women's soccer team (8-3-1) will compete Oct. 30 to Nov. 1 at Vermont Technical College in Randolph Center, Vt.; and the Wildcats' men's and women's cross-country teams will compete Oct. 31 at Southern Virginia University in Buena Vista, Va.

"It's just a great opportunity for all of our teams in the USCAA," Byerly said.

"When Mike (associate director of athletics Mike Stanzione) did the homework for this conference over the past couple of years, we really felt that we had an opportunity to send a number of our teams to these type of championships. These four teams in the fall have already proven that. We are very pleased.

"It's a great opportunity for our student-athletes. While they certainly concentrate on the academic work first, it's a nice capstone to compete beyond the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference and have a chance to prove their mettle, so to speak, at the national level," Byerly added.
