It was a great week for four Pennsylvania College of Technology fall sports athletes as one medaled in a golf tournament, two were named United East Conference Players of the Week and one was honored as the UE Runner of the Week.

FLASHBACK
Golf
On Monday, Peyton Mussina, of Montoursville, carded a one-under-par 71 for a two-day 146 total and third place at the Wilson College Invitational where the Wildcats finished fifth among eight teams.

One day later, Mussina fired another 71 to medal in leading Penn College to the championship in the seven-team United East Conference Fall Preview. The win was the Wildcats’ first in a conference event since they captured the spring championship in April 2021.

“It was nice. We’ve been on the road for three days and it was nice. It was a good day overall,” coach Rob Lytle said of Tuesday’s event. “I’m super proud of Peyton, he’s been working hard on his game and he’s been playing well. It was nice to win today but it’s just another step in our process of trying to get better every day. I want to have a successful Penn College golf program and we’re laying the groundwork now.”

Cross-country
On Monday, freshman Mitchell Campbell, of Riegelsville, was named the UE Runner of the Week for Sept. 19-25 as he claimed first place at the Penn State Abington Invitational. It was his second such honor this season.

Men’s soccer
In nonconference road action on Wednesday, the Wildcats lost at King’s College, 1-0, as goalkeeper Cole Catherman, of Selinsgrove, made saves on three of four shots on goal.

At United East Conference unbeaten St. Mary’s (Md.) College (4-0) on Saturday, Penn College allowed four second-half goals in a 5-1 loss that dropped it to 1-2-1 in the UE and 2-6-3 overall. Matt Neeson, of Chadds Ford, scored the lone goal for the Wildcats as they were outshot 15-3 on goal and 10-2 in corner kicks.

Also this week, Catherman, a sophomore, was named UE Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for Sept. 19-25 after stopping 13 shots and allowing just one goal in two matches.

Women’s soccer
At Juniata College on Wednesday in nonconference play, Penn College fell, 1-0. Nicole Lichtinger, of Erie, made five saves in goal.

The Wildcats scored three first-half goals – two by Kaelynn Sheetz, of Elizabethtown – and Lichtinger had five saves in a 3-2 Saturday win at St. Mary’s (Md.) College that boosted Penn College to 3-1 in the UE and 4-6-1 overall. Sara Darlington, of West Chester, had two assists during the match and Wiley Egan, of Northumberland, added a goal and an assist in handing St. Mary’s its first conference loss.

On Monday, Sheetz, a junior, was named UE Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for Sept. 19-25, during which she registered 16 points after recording two hat tricks and two two-assist matches.

On Tuesday at Mt. Aloysius College, Brooke Simmons, of Waterford, had 19 digs; Cheyenne Stein, of Orwigsburg, had 17 assists and four aces; and Coryn Oswald, of Langhorne, had eight kills in a 3-0 loss.

In a pair of 3-0 nonconference losses to Arcadia and Widener universities on Saturday, Stein had 22 assists; Oswald had 20 digs; Christine Limbert, of Curwensville, had five blocks; and Oswald and Hailey DeBrody, of Cogan Station, each had seven kills as Penn College dropped to 2-9 overall.
