Foundation’s Spring Golf Classic to Feature PGA Pro Bobby Clampett

Bobby ClampettPGA Tour member Bobby Clampett will be the visiting pro at the Pennsylvania College of Technology Foundation’s 21st Annual Spring Golf Classic on May 7 at the Williamsport Country Club.

Net proceeds from the event will benefit the Penn College Foundation Golf Classic Scholarship. The endowed fund has grown to be the single-largest source of nongovernmental-funded scholarship support awarded to Penn College students. The tournament has generated more than $254,000 in scholarship awards to Penn College students since 1990.

Clampett, 47, works with CBS and TBS as a member of their golf broadcasting teams. He is a current participant and lifetime member of the PGA Tour, having earned more than $1.4 million over a 14-year full-time career. His best finish was a win at the 1982 Southern Open. Clampett is beginning a return to competitive golf in preparation for joining the Champions Tour in 2010. He also works independently as a golf-course designer and author from his home in Raleigh, N.C., where he is a father of three and stepfather of two with his wife, Marianna.

At 18, Clampett was the youngest player ever to finish in the top 24 in the Masters, a record that still stands. He has been inducted into the California Golf Hall of Fame, the Utah Golf Hall of Fame and Brigham Young University’s Hall of Fame. In 1998, he was named Golf Digest’s most improved broadcaster.
