Pennsylvania College of Technology employees and recent authors Megan Rogers and Tom Speicher will staff a book-signing/sale as part of this week's kids-themed First Friday activities in downtown Williamsport. The pair will be situated outside Gustonian Gifts, 357 Pine St., beginning at 5 p.m.

"Meet Mason""Bucky Deacon's Dilemma"Rogers, a part-time information desk assistant at the Student & Administrative Services Center, published “Meet Mason,” an illustrated children’s book inspired by her 9-year-old son who has been blind since birth. The book’s objective is to help kids relate to those who are blind or have other special needs.

Speicher, a writer/video producer at the college, co-authored “Bucky Deacon’s Dilemma” with his late mentor, Bill Byham. Speicher revised and updated Byham’s manuscript from the 1980s to publish the book geared to middle-school readers. The book teaches important life lessons through the experiences of Bucky Deacon and his eighth-grade football team.

Both books are available on Amazon, among other outlets, and can be purchased at Friday's event. A portion of the proceeds from “Bucky Deacon’s Dilemma” is being donated to a scholarship fund at Penn College. Rogers hopes to use proceeds from "Meet Mason" to start a foundation dedicated to assisting single parents of children who have special needs.
