Financial Aid Office to Offer Free FAFSA Completion Sessions

The Financial Aid Office at Pennsylvania College of Technology will offer free sessions in March and April to help students, prospective students and families complete the 2016-17 Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

Both sessions will be in Room 1049 on the first floor of Penn College’s Student & Administrative Services Center (the building adjacent to the large American flag at the college’s main entrance off Maynard Street).

The first session will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 19. Attendees will be invited to complete and submit their 2016-17 FAFSAs using the center’s computers before the session ends at 12:30 p.m.

During the second session on Tuesday, April 6, the Financial Aid Office staff will be available from 4:30 to 7 p.m. At both sessions, the staff will assist attendees as needed with the online FAFSA completion process.

“I am pleased that our staff is again able to offer this opportunity and provide personal service for our prospective and current students to ensure they are maximizing their financial aid resources,” said Dennis L. Correll, associate dean for financial aid and admissions at Penn College.

The FAFSA is required by colleges and universities to determine whether students are eligible for federal and state grants, student and parent loans, and scholarships.

The primary goal of the sessions is to assist individuals and families in completing the FAFSA accurately so that funds can be made available to students pursuing higher education. Parents and students attending any college or university are invited to receive this free assistance.

All attendees who plan to submit a FAFSA during a session should create a student and/or parent Federal Student Aid ID prior to the session. Attendees should also bring copies of their 2015 financial documents including federal tax returns, W-2 forms, untaxed income statements, child support paid or received amounts, as well as amounts for their current assets.

In addition, families that file their federal tax returns electronically two to three weeks prior to the FAFSA sessions will, in most cases, be eligible for the time-saving IRS Data Retrieval process.

Students who are 23 or younger should attend with a parent or guardian.

Registration is required for the FAFSA completion sessions. For more information – or to preregister for either event – visit online, call the Financial Aid Office at 570-327-4766 or email the Financial Aid Office.
