Festive Event Encourages Safe, Healthy Spring Break

To encourage students to have a healthy and safe Spring Break, AAA North Penn and a number of campus offices are co-sponsoring "Happy Hour Keep It Happy" from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday in Penn's Inn (CC, second floor). Information regarding alcohol, safe sex, highway safety, safe sun exposure, etc., will be provided in a party atmosphere.
AAA representative Barbara Caldwell will be joined by Pennsylvania College of Technology's Counseling Services, Student Activities Office, Madigan Library, Student Health Services, Food Services, Penn College Police and Athletics.
The event will feature a nonalcoholic mix-off competition involving the School of Hospitality's beverage management students. The drinks will be judged and the top two winning students will receive plaques provided by AAA North Penn, which also will provide gifts to the 12 culinary students participating in the competition. Judges will include Fred W. Becker, dean of hosopitality; Sharon K. Waters, dean of health sciences, Mike J. Stanzione, director of athletics; Ward W. Caldwell, special assistant to the president for student affairs; Tonya Welshans, public health educator for the Pennsylvania Department of Health; Sara Maribito, an off-campus landlord; Timothy J. Mallery, assistant director of residence life/coordinator of housing operations; and college nurse Leann M. Ritter.
Counselor Michael S. DiPalma and Michael J. Hersh, Student Activities' assistant director for programming, will serve as emcees, and DJ Karaoke and the Penn College Dance Team will provide entertainment. Door prizes will be raffled, students will get to sample mix-off beverages and tropical refreshments will be available.
A number of community agencies will be represented, includign the Pennsylvania Department of Health, West Branch Drug and Alcohol Abuse Commission, Wise Options/YWCA, MADD and SAFNET.
