Fall Lineup Set at CoffeeHouse

The CoffeeHouse at Pennsylvania College of Technology will play host to a diverse group of musical performers and styles this fall, with the duo Zoot scheduled to kick off the popular series on Tuesday, Aug. 29, at 8 p.m.

The performances, which are offered by the College's Student Activities Office, are free and open to the public. All shows begin at 8. The CoffeeHouse is on the first floor of the Bush Campus Center at Penn College.

This fall's CoffeeHouse performers are:

Zoot Tuesday, Aug. 29 Zoot is a powerful duo featuring rich vocals and great jams. The music is a soulful blend of jazz, folk and everyday life. The unique fusion of vocals and the introduction of horns and guitar set this band apart. Zoot is a group to see, hear and experience.

Peter Mulvey Tuesday, Sept. 12 Combine the guitar styles of Leo Kottke, Ani DiFranco and Dave Matthews, add a smooth, husky voice and an astounding sense of lyricism, and you have Peter Mulvey. Mulvey has played some of the most prestigious venues in the United States and the United Kingdom, alone and with such artists as 10,000 Maniacs, Patty Larkin and Emmylou Harris.

Kirk Nugent Tuesday, Sept. 26 Kirk Nugent is a spoken-word icon. Born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, he moved to the United States in 1983 and has been performing poetry throughout the tri-state area for three years. Nugent recently released his first spoken-word CD entitled, "Unpopular Truth."

Beki HemingwayTuesday, Oct. 24 Beki Hemingway is a military brat with a famous last name who has been singing ever since she can remember. In 1997, she embarked on a solo career and released a well-received six-song EP entitled "rinse.repeat." Last year, she played in the Lilith Fair finals and Viva La Diva.

The Evinrudes Tuesday, Nov. 14, 8 A departure from alternative rock, The Evinrudes is amped-up acoustic groove meets toned-down techno-hop. The music has become less about the mosh pit and more about the voice and the songs. Sherry Coltrane and Brian Reed have combined forces to make great music.

Amo Tuesday, Dec. 5, 8 Amo cut his musical teeth by playing in his father's country band in Ireland. He paid his way through college by playing solo gigs in clubs throughout Ireland. After college, Amo decided to try his hand in New York. The "Irish Voice" says, "Amo kicks it, twists it, turns it upside down and inside out."
