Two Pennsylvania College of Technology faculty members presented at the 12th Annual Conference of the Midwest World History Association, held recently at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
With the conference theme of “Difficult Histories,” Jennifer R. Wahl and Craig A. Miller co-chaired the workshop “Teaching Difficult Histories to Non-Majors.” Wahl also chaired a panel discussion on “Global Authoritarianism: Challenging Histories of the Military, Authoritarian Rule and Dictatorships.”
Wahl is an instructor of social sciences at Penn College. Miller is an associate professor of history/political science and department head for social sciences and humanities.
A nonprofit organization founded in 2009, the Midwest World History Association promotes the study of world history through the encouragement of research, teaching and publication. The association promotes activities to increase historical awareness, understanding among and between peoples, and global consciousness. The association provides opportunities for world history teachers to discuss theories of history and methods of study and teaching.
Wahl joined the Penn College faculty full time in Fall 2020 and teaches world history, psychology and sociology courses. She previously taught at the college as an adjunct faculty member while serving as a secondary education teacher in the Loyalsock Township School District. In 2018, the was named Pennsylvania State Teacher of the Year.
Wahl earned a master’s degree in educational leadership from Penn State and a bachelor’s degree in history from Cabrini University.
A faculty member at Penn College since 2011, Miller holds a doctorate in American Indian history, history of the Atlantic world, constitutional and legal history from the University of Buffalo, where he also earned a master’s in colonial history. He earned his bachelor’s degree in history from SUNY Geneseo.
Miller serves as the chief reader for the World History: Modern Advanced Placement exam.
