Faculty Member Wears Many Hats at Economic Conference

Gerald D. %E2%80%9CChip%E2%80%9D Baumgardner An associate professor of business administration at Penn College served a number of roles while attending the 68th International Atlantic Economic Conference in Boston from Oct. 9-11.

While at the conference, Gerald D. “Chip” Baumgardner presented a paper, “Utilizing Cooperative Learning in Economics: Strategies for Effective Learning,” which was born of research conducted in several Managerial Economics classes he taught at Penn College from 2007-09.

Baumgardner also served as a judge for the Best Undergraduate Paper Competition, sponsored by

“We had the daunting task of selecting among the 67 papers offered by undergraduate students at colleges/universities throughout the world,” he said. “I gained great comfort in knowing papers submitted in classes at Penn College are on par with those offered for the competition.”

He also chaired a session on Business Economics, Managerial Incentives and Government Regulation in which papers were presented by individuals from Houston Baptist University, SUNY-Plattsburgh, the University of Texas El Paso, the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, Southern Methodist University and the Institute of Business Entropy.

Baumgardner holds a doctorate from George Mason University, master’s degrees from The Pennsylvania State University and Shippensburg University, and a bachelor’s degree from Penn State.
