A chili taste-off will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, in the Little Theater of the Acacia Club on Market Street in Williamsport. Contestants are requested to bring about 2 gallons of chili in a crockpot or other electric device (no cooking facilities are available). Rival chilis will be judged by students from Penn College's School of Hospitality. Additionally, members of the public will be able to taste chili for a nominal fee and vote on their favorites. There also will be a cupcake judging. Each contestant is requested to bring 1 dozen regular-sized cupcakes and 2 dozen mini-cupcakes. Judging will be done on the appearance (decoration) of the cupcakes, as well as the taste. Ice cream and drinks will be available for a nominal cost. All proceeds will benefit victims of flooding and other disasters and hardships. The contest is sponsored by Region 9A of the Order of the Eastern Star; prizes will be awarded. For more information, contact Debra A. Buckman, assistant professor of chemistry and environmental science.
