English Faculty Member's Paper Published in Online Journal

Laura M. Dickinson, associate professor of English-composition at Pennsylvania College of Technology, recently had a paper published in an online journal.
The paper, titled "The Monster in the Jungle: Lost and the 21st Century American Gothic," was published in Lost Online Studies, Volume 2.1.
Lost Online Studies is a regular publication of the Society for the Study of Lost, an interest group devoted to all aspects of the ABC/Touchstone television series "Lost" as an artistic and cultural phenomenon. For more information about the society, visit online.
Dickinson's paper originally was presented at the 2007 Mid-Atlantic Popular/American Culture Association conference, held in Philadelphia in November. The paper examines "Lost" as a 21st-century re-emergence of the American gothic. The gothic elements of the island present a physical manifestation of the psychological disarray of the characters' lives; and, as was the case for 19th-century anxieties about the future, they could reflect the disquiet experienced by many Americans today in the face of concerns about an ongoing war and changes in technology and climate.
The Mid-Atlantic Popular/American Culture Association is a regional division of the Popular and American Culture Associations.
Before joining the faculty of Penn College in Fall 2005, Dickinson was a faculty member at Capitol College in Laurel, Md., having also taught at the University of Maryland and Bowie State University. She earned her doctorate in American Literature at the University of Maryland, College Park.
