EarthSmart Club Applauded for Roadside Litter Cleanup

Congratulations to Penn College’s EarthSmart Club Debra A. Buckman, assistant professor of environmental technology, and David L. Evans, biology professor, are the advisers for its many years of highway cleanup as participants in PennDot’s litter-cleanup campaign.

The group headed out under threatening skies on a Tuesday in mid-October and worked two miles picking up six packs of empty beer cans, plastic cups and miscellaneous clothing, all amounting to two large garbage bags of the remainsthat civilization left behind. Afterward, everyone repaired to a nearby pizzeria in time to dodge the showers and have a good time.

It was a rewarding (if not yummy!) afternoon for all, Evans said.
