Pennsylvania College of Technology presented its Distinguished Alumni Award to Warren A. Peter during Summer 2015 commencement ceremonies held Aug. 8 at the Community Arts Center, Williamsport.

The Distinguished Alumni Award is given to those who have made significant contributions in their chosen fields, demonstrated the importance of their Penn College education, participated in leadership roles within the community, and demonstrated a commitment to the college and community relations.

Peter graduated from Penn College’s immediate predecessor, Williamsport Area Community College, in 1974 with an Associate of Applied Science in carpentry and building construction technology.

A native of Beech Creek, Peter graduated from Bald Eagle Nittany High School in 1972. Early in his career, he was employed by Haven Homes Inc. in the Beech Creek area until 1977, when he transferred to Indiana, Pennsylvania, to serve as the company’s construction superintendent.

In 1981, he started Warren Peter Construction Inc., based in Indiana, and serves as its president/CEO.

Peter has served as a member of Penn College’s Carpentry and Construction Technology Advisory Committee since 2006.

He is a director for the National Association of Home Builders and a life director for the Pennsylvania Builders Association. With PBA, he has served in a variety of leadership positions including president in 2012 and chair of the Workforce Training and Education Committee several times.

Peter has also functioned on a number of construction-related committees at the state level. In 2013, PBA presented Peter with its Builder of the Year Award, recognizing the impact he has had on the construction industry and his service to builders associations at the national, state and local levels.

He is active with the Indiana-Armstrong Builders Association, serving in numerous leadership posts and on various committees for the two-county organization.

Peter has also lent his expertise to the Indiana County Technology Center, serving on its Craft Advisory Committee for carpentry, and proctoring student exams.

He has participated with the Indiana-Armstrong Builders Association in building a home for Habitat for Humanity and in constructing facilities for the Homer City Baseball Boosters. He has also participated in construction for the Punxsutawney Baseball Boosters.

Peter’s son, Joseph T. Peter, is a graduate of Penn College. He earned Associate of Applied Science degrees in construction carpentry in 2005 and architectural technology in 2007 and is employed in the family business.
