Director of Nursing Named at Penn College

Sharon G. Auker has been appointed director of nursing at Pennsylvania College of Technology. Auker, an associate professor of medical/surgical nursing at the college, will assume her new duties on Jan. 12.

As a full-time faculty member in Penn College's nursing program for 12 years, Auker has taught bachelor- and associate-level nursing courses. She holds a doctorate in nursing from The Pennsylvania State University (2004), receiving highest honors.

Auker has administrative experience as the director of lifestyle management and community education at SUN Home Health Services Inc. and nursing experience in a variety of health-care facilities including Polyclinic Medical Center, Harrisburg, and the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. She has taught at other institutions including Geisinger Medical Center School of Nursing and Lycoming College.

"Sharon has the educational background and leadership experience that will empower the nursing program to be well-positioned to meet the challenges ahead," said Lizabeth S. Mullens, vice president for academic affairs and provost. "I look forward to her contributions in this new role at Penn College."

"She brings with her a rich history of administrative, clinical and teaching experience that will clearly contribute to the successful delivery of quality nursing education to our students."

Pamela L. Starcher, the college's current director of nursing, will mentor and oversee a variety of special projects during the Spring 2009 semester and Summer 2009 sessions.
