David M. Heiney, 80, of Hughesville, interim president of Williamsport Area Community College from 1980-81, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 2020, at UPMC Susquehanna in Williamsport.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. A full obituary, detailing his professional accomplishments and community involvement, is available on the website of the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home in Hughesville.

More about his interim presidency – and his substantial student affairs work before and after that tenure to help WACC grow from a commuter campus to a more traditional college community – can be found in “Legacy of Leaders,” the second volume in Penn College’s Countdown to the Centennial series: David M. Heiney

Heiney also was interviewed by Daniel J. Doyle, professor emeritus of history, as part of the college’s Oral History Project.
