Connected by Stitch,” a juried exhibition showcasing a wide range of 2-D and 3-D fiber art, opened on Oct. 22 and is set to close Thursday, Dec. 8.

The curator’s tour will be led by Meredith Eachus Armstrong and intends to be an insightful survey of the artwork, the exhibiting artists, the curation process and an overview of contemporary quilt-making techniques utilized by artists in the show.

“Visitors from near and far have come to The Gallery at Penn College to view the high quality artwork on display in the ‘Connected by Stitch’ exhibit,” said Penny Griffin Lutz, gallery director. “I’m thankful to Meredith Armstrong and all of the exhibiting artists for making this such a successful show.”

“Connected by Stitch” is the first Pennsylvania regional juried show by the international Studio Art Quilt Associates. The exhibit features fiber-based artwork by 35 artists who are Pennsylvania members of SAQA and those who have chosen Pennsylvania as their second region. The artists were invited to submit work for the exhibition.

Located on the third floor of Madigan Library, the gallery is open 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays; 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays.

The next exhibit in the gallery’s 2016-17 academic year is “Transformation,” presenting paintings and installations by Iranian-born artist Zahra Nazari. That exhibit runs Jan. 12 through March 2.

In addition to serving as an educational resource for Penn College students and a cultural asset to the college and community, the gallery is dedicated to promoting art appreciation through exhibitions of contemporary art.
