Courses to Benefit Mid-Level Managers, Front-Line Supervisors

A pair of multi-session leadership programs, to be offered this fall by Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Pennsylvania College of Technology, are designed to aid managers and supervisors.

Effective leadership at the manager level assumes familiarity with the basic concepts of supervision. Through a series of 10 modules covered in five Tuesdays – Oct 6 and 20, Nov. 3 and 17, and Dec. 8 – participants in Penn College’s new Mid-Level Manager Program will explore and practice key areas of management focusing on the skills required to perform successfully with people, processes and operations.

The course will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Room 132 of the college’s Klump Academic Center.

Topics include organizational change, enhanced communication, conflict resolution, coaching for exemplary performance, developing global business acumen, problem solving and decision making, financial knowledge essentials, project budgeting and justification, and leading complex projects. Upon completion, participants will be able to demonstrate competency beyond the typical supervisory skills set and successfully apply these concepts in the workplace.

The Penn College Front Line Leadership program is designed to meet the unique challenges faced by front-line supervisors. Each course, to be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays from Oct. 4 to Dec. 13 in the Academic Center, contains four modules and covers multiple topics across core competencies.

Specific topics and schedules are Supervisory Fundamentals, Oct. 4 and 11; Performance Management, Oct. 18 and 25; Teamwork and Cooperation, Nov. 1 and 8; Workplace Challenges, Nov. 15 and 22; and Workplace Improvement, Dec. 6 and 13.
