Construction management students at Pennsylvania College of Technology have a new scholarship fund to turn to for financial assistance.

Penn College's construction management faculty began raising funds for the School of Construction and Design Technologies Construction Management (BCM) Scholarship just three years ago, and faculty member Wayne R. Sheppard reports the fund recently reached endowed status with a balance of more than $20,000.

An endowed scholarship fund produces awards from interest generated by the principal in the account, with additional awards possible as the endowed account continues to grow.

Sheppard said the scholarship helps to expand opportunities for construction management students at Penn College.

"It is quite evident, based on the widespread support of alumni, industry and faculty, that our program and our students are valued," Sheppard said. "This is a great achievement − to raise the full endowed amount in only three years − and it took a team effort. I look forward to additional scholarship awards as we continue to work toward our students' success."

The college's construction management faculty holds an annual golf outing to raise funds for the scholarship. Sheppard said many corporate and individual supporters, including current construction management students, have also contributed to the fund.

Applicants for the School of Construction and Design Technologies Construction Management (BCM) Scholarship must be enrolled full time in that major at the sophomore or higher level.

Applicants must be eligible for other forms of financial aid and should provide evidence, attached to their application, attesting to their student organization activity at the college, commitment to the construction industry, work ethic and demonstration of leadership while a student at the college. Priority consideration will be given to continuing students in subsequent years.

Eligible students may file applications for the scholarship award between Dec. 1 and Feb. 1. Applications may be filed online . A printable application also is available at the Web site.
