Construction Management Professor Earns Doctoral Degree


Dennis R. DorwardDennis R. Dorward, an associate professor of building construction management at Pennsylvania College of Technology, recently earned a doctorate from the Indiana State University.

Dorward, whose research was in construction project scheduling, was awarded a Ph.D. in technology management with a construction management specialization.

He also holds an associate degree in construction engineering technology from the State University of New York at Alfred, a bachelor’s degree in construction management from Utica College of Syracuse University and two master’s degrees: one in business management from SUNY Institute of Technology and the other in vocational-technical education from SUNY Oswego.

Dorward joined the Penn College faculty as an assistant professor in the Fall 1998 semester for the four-year construction management major; he currently teaches construction surveying, construction safety and construction project management.

During the eight years since his hiring, he has served on a number of committees at Penn College. He chairs the Curriculum Committee of the college’s Internal Governance system and is accreditation director for the construction management baccalaureate major. That program is in “candidate” status for accreditation by the American Council for Construction Education.

Dorward has been active in the construction industry for more than 30 years, working in various positions as laborer, carpenter, foreman, field superintendent and project manager. He served in the Army for three years as a topographic surveyor, attaining the rank of sergeant.

He also owned and operated his own company, providing general contracting and construction management services in the Central New York area for eight years prior to coming to Penn College.
