Whether traveling by foot, bike or auto, Penn College's Energy Conservation Subcommittee encourages the campus community to enjoy a safe, clean summer. As you travel 'round about during the coming months, note that roundabouts offer a way to cleaner air by keeping traffic moving and cutting down on emissions. Stopping and starting vehicles causes more air pollution and uses more fuel. Studies show that fuel usage can be reduced from 8-30 percent with non-idling movement. Also, the slower movement of traffic helps to create a safer travel environment. (From the Center for the Environment, Catawba College, Salisbury, N.C.)
