Community Arts Center awarded EITC funds from PPL Electric Utilities

The Community Arts Center is the recipient of $5,000 from PPL Electric Utilities through the Pennsylvania Education Improvement Tax Credit program, a contribution that will be used to support the theater’s Dec. 3-4 presentation of “The Nutcracker.”

“Educational Improvement Tax Credits allow PPL to enhance and improve educational opportunities for students. Providing these funds to the Community Arts Center is an ideal way for PPL to support not only talented students, but also help the arts to truly thrive in this region,” said Tracie Witter, PPL regional affairs director. ‘”The Nutcracker’ has been presented in our community for the past 50 years, and we are happy to be able to contribute to its longevity.”

The Community Arts Center is an approved Educational Improvement Organization by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development. The EITC program provides tax credits to eligible companies that do business in the state when they contribute to scholarship organizations, educational improvement organizations and/or pre-kindergarten scholarship organizations. The funds support projects that improve access to high-quality education programs. Organizations must be prequalified by the state Department of Community & Economic Development to participate.

Jim Dougherty, executive director at the CAC, said: “The annual collaboration among Pennsylvania College of Technology, Lycoming College and St. John’s School of the Arts to present ‘The Nutcracker’ to our community is a highlight of each holiday season, and it wouldn’t be possible without the generous EITC funding that PPL provides. We at the Community Arts Center are grateful for the ability to host such incredible local talent on our stage this year, and every year.”

The CAC programming approved for EITC funds includes “The Nutcracker” performance, the Student Summer Stock program, Performance Series-Masterclasses and Educational Series shows.

“I’m very appreciative of this support from PPL Electric Utilities,” said Ana Gonzalez-White, college relations officer in charge of development for the CAC. “They have been longtime partners and help make it possible for us to offer our student-centered programs.”

Funding for the educational programming is derived from various sources, including EITC funds, donations, corporate sponsorships, and grants.
