The campus was invited to the International Student Reception and to bring a dish that represents their heritage or a donation to the Penn College Food Cupboard. Participants responded, providing a full buffet of traditional foods, including red beans and rice that represented part of a grandfather’s pay as a farm worker in Alabama; the “quintessentially British” bread-and-butter pudding; Chamorro pork and beef barbecue with an Asian twist, to dually represent a student’s Guam homeland and Asian ancestry; and sugar cakes from Barbados, among many other tasty specialties. Most represented special times with families and provided a starting point for conversation. This semester, Penn College is host to students who are residents of Canada, Ghana, India, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, Taiwan, and Thailand.
