College’s Leadership Training Series Reaches National Audience

Through its Workforce Development & Continuing Education (WDCE) office, Pennsylvania College of Technology began an ambitious project in 2015 to develop a new leadership training program for companies.

In partnership with respected program developers representing many employment sectors, a curriculum was built to hone the skills of front-line leaders, mid-level managers and senior executives. It incorporates online materials and was crafted with customizable modules based on industry type and/or company-specific input.

Dubbed the Penn College Leadership Series, the program rolled out late last year and has quickly become an acclaimed training product reaching a national audience.

ES3, with its flagship facility in York, is one such customer. Citing a “significant” return on investment from training delivered this past spring, the company has already expressed interest in training another round of supervisors.

“The Workforce Development & Continuing Education team from Penn College are highly trained professionals who provided an intensive Supervisor Certification Program for our organization,” said Gerry Post, senior manager of learning and development for ES3. “The learning designs were tailored to our culture and used advanced interactive approaches that required our new supervisors to be accountable through the immediate application of the concepts learned.”

“As a busy professional myself,” Post added. “I appreciated the fact that the service their team provided was excellent, requiring very minimal time from me. The resulting program was a high-quality training that provided a significant ROI. I highly recommend Penn College.”

Another customer – a major building-products manufacturer – trained more than 100 front-line supervisors at company locations in New Jersey and California.

“We listened to the needs of companies, large and small, for cutting-edge leadership training,” noted Tracy L. Brundage, vice president for workforce development at Penn College. “Companies were requesting a program that spanned their entire leadership structure and, most importantly, they wanted it to be customizable.”

“The training is representative of significant growth beyond the college’s historical footprint of northcentral Pennsylvania,” she explained. “We are now working with more national companies to provide training not only for the Leadership Series, but for industrial, plastics, health care, aviation and computer training.”
