College Store Employees Establish Scholarship

Among the duties performed by College Store employees at Pennsylvania College of Technology is ensuring that students find the textbooks and supplies they need to succeed in their studies.
Now, those same employees are going beyond the call of duty by helping students who require financial assistance to complete their education.
The Pennsylvania College of Technology-College Store Scholarship will be issued to a minimum of one student in the fall and spring semesters, beginning this fall.
The College Store staff members expressed a desire to direct their Annual Fund gifts to a scholarship that helps those students who need a little extra financial assistance to ensure their continued success at Penn College.
Matthew P. Branca, director of the College Store, is an avid supporter of the volunteer efforts of employees to help Penn College students, and he believes it was a natural progression for the College Store employees to create a scholarship fund. Branca and several other College Store employees sought to establish a scholarship in the store's name as a means of identifying their commitment as an employee group to the College's mission.
Dennis L. Correll, associate dean for institutional advancement, praised the staff members for their efforts.
"We have several active employee/volunteer groups here on campus that hold events and find donors to assist in our scholarship program," Correll said. "It is always exciting to work with employees that truly desire to help our students succeed, both academically and financially."
To be eligible for the scholarships, a student in any academic major must be enrolled full-time in the second year of his or her studies and must demonstrate financial need.
The amount of the scholarship fund to be distributed will be determined later .
