College Restaurant Receives Wine Spectator Award

Pennsylvania College of Technology's Le Jeune Chef Restaurant again has received a 'Best of Award of Excellence' from Wine Spectator magazine. For the 11th consecutive year, Wine Spectator magazine has granted its “Best of Award of Excellence” to Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Le Jeune Chef Restaurant.

The award places Le Jeune Chef a restaurant that also serves as a practical laboratory training experience for students in Penn College’s School of Hospitality in select company. Only 788 restaurants worldwide earned the second-tier “Best of” awards. “Grand Awards,” the top honor bestowed by the magazine, went to just 75 restaurants. The magazine issued its basic award, the “Award of Excellence,” to 2,880 restaurants.

The award winners are listed in the magazine’s annual Dining Guide published in the Aug. 31 issue. A total 93 restaurants in Pennsylvania were recognized on the list, and Le Jeune Chef Restaurant was among only 12 “Best of” winners in the state.

To win a Wine Spectator award, a restaurant must offer a wine list that includes wines appropriate to its cuisine, while appealing to a wide range of wine lovers. The list also must present complete and accurate wine information.

The “Best of Award of Excellence” gives special recognition to those restaurants that exceed the requirements of the “Award of Excellence.” These lists display either vintage depth, with vertical offerings of several top producers from major regions, or excellent breadth spread over several wine-growing regions. Lists at this level typically offer 400 or more selections, with superior presentation.

Le Jeune Chef’s wine list offers 620 selections, specializing in wines from California and France. It has received the “Best of Award of Excellence” every year since 2000. It received the “Award of Excellence” each year from 1995-99.
