College Offers Course in Local Anesthetics to Dental Hygienists

The School of Health Sciences and Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Pennsylvania College of Technology are offering a noncredit course designed to provide licensed dental hygienists with the required knowledge and skills to administer local anesthesia in clinical settings.

In the 30-hour course, Local Anesthetics for the Dental Hygienist, participants will gain knowledge in orofacial anatomy, pathology, pharmacology, armamentarium and local-anesthesia administration.

Practical training will include hands-on application of local-anesthesia administration in clinical laboratory settings. The specific requirements set forth by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's State Board of Dentistry will be addressed.

A copy of a current dental hygiene license, current CPR/BLS (cardiopulmonary resuscitation/basic life support) certification and proof of liability insurance are required for entrance into the course.
