College, NETA to Offer Nationally Recognized Workshops in April

Pennsylvania College of Technology and the National Exercise Trainers Association, a nonprofit fitness-professional organization, are co-sponsoring three nationally recognized workshops at the College in April.

All of the workshops will be offered at Bardo Gymnasium on Penn College's main campus.

Personal Trainer Workshop, April 9-10This workshop will be offered from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 9, and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 10. An expert trainer will provide demonstrations and address exercise science, communications skills, exercise programming, health and fitness assessments, and cardiovascular and strength-training equipment, among other topics.

Included in the workshop registration are a written examination, two-year national certification and membership in NETA. The cost is $329 ($299 for those who pre-register 30 days before the workshop). Space is limited, and pre-registration is recommended. The workshop is designed for those with some fitness experience.

Group Exercise Instructor Certification Workshop, April 23 This workshop will be offered from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 23. Participants will undergo the most thorough one-day certification in the industry. Beginning instructors and/or those with little experience will gain insight into the basics of teaching group exercise.

The workshop includes a classroom review of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology and nutrition, as well as practical work with cueing, choreography, music skills and safe-exercise evaluation. The workshop includes a written exam and a national certification that's valid for two years.

The cost is $229 ($199 for those who pre-register 30 days before the workshop). Space is limited, and pre-registration is recommended.

Mindful Movement Workshop, April 24 This workshop will be offered from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, April 24. Participants will explore various types of the mind-body exercise genre yoga, Pilates and tai chi while learning how to include these principles into stretching, breathing techniques and movement activities in a group exercise class. The cost is $79. Space is limited, and pre-registration is recommended.
