College Colloquium to Address How Brain Growth Affects Learning


Robert Sylwester, author and emeritus professor of education at the University of Oregon, will present the colloquium “Present at the Maturation of Our Brain” on April 4 at Pennsylvania College of Technology.

The nontechnical presentation will describe the brain’s organization and extended development and will address the implications for adolescent and adult education. The program, which is free and open to the public, will be offered from 7 to 9 p.m. in Room A122 of the Hager Lifelong Education Center at Penn College.

A shorter, informal version of the program (mostly questions and answers) will be presented from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on April 5 in Room W205 of the Breuder Advanced Technology and Health Sciences Center.

Sylwester, who focuses on the educational implications of new developments in science and technology, is the author of several books and more than 150 journal articles. He also writes a monthly column for the Internet magazine “Brain Connection.” He has made more than 1,300 conference and in-service presentations on educationally significant developments in brain/stress theory and research.

The Education Press Association of America presented Sylwester with Distinguished Achievement Awards for his 1993-94 syntheses of cognitive science research published in “Educational Leadership.”
