Victoria Hurwitz has been named director of Pennsylvania College of Technology’s physical therapist assistant program.

Hurwitz, a licensed physical therapist, also holds certification as a Women’s Health Clinical Specialist, and for the past five years, she was a pelvic health physical therapist for UPMC Williamsport.

She had served as a part-time faculty member for the college’s physical therapist assistant program since January 2019.

Victoria HurwitzOther prior work includes Meriter-UnityPoint Health in Madison, Wisconsin, where she was a level III physical therapist/women’s health team lead; The Center for Pelvic Floor and Core Rehabilitation, in Cincinnati, where she was a lead physical therapist; and Balance Fitness for Life in Willowbrook, Illinois, where she was a physical therapist.

“Victoria’s professional experience and passion for the field of physical therapy make her a great fit for this role,” said Wendy A. Miller, assistant dean of health sciences. “She has already demonstrated her commitment to the physical therapist assistant program and its students in her prior role as adjunct faculty, and I have every confidence that she will take this already strong program to the next level.”

Hurwitz holds Doctor of Physical Therapy and Bachelor of Health Sciences degrees from the University of Miami, and she completed a Women’s Health Residency through the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education at Women’s Health Physical Therapy in Richmond, Virginia.

She is a member of the Specialization Academy of Content Experts, a pool of experts who write items for the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties’ certification exams; a member of the International Pelvic Pain Society; and a member of the American Physical Therapy Association’s Academy of Pelvic Health and Academy of Physical Therapy Education.

Locally, she is secretary for the Montoursville Kiwanis Club and a team manager for Montoursville American Youth Soccer Organization.

Penn College offers an associate degree in physical therapist assistant. Physical therapist assistants are educated in physical therapy interventions and work under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist. They assist individuals of all ages whose lives have been impacted by injury or illness.

Hands-on learning takes place in a well-equipped, on-campus laboratory where students practice skills and interventions. In addition, each student completes three clinical education experiences to apply skills. Those experiences are available with more than 65 diverse clinical organizations offering opportunities in inpatient, outpatient, long-term and specialty care.

The first graduating class from the college’s physical therapist assistant major, graduating in August 2018, not only achieved a 100% first-attempt pass rate on the national certification exam for physical therapist assistants, but the graduates also achieved 100% employment in their field.
