Collectible ‘Comic Con’ Program Free to First 500 Pre-Registrants

A program/coloring book with original artwork by presenters at this year’s Wildcat Comic Con will be among giveaways to the first 500 people to pre-register for the Sept. 28 event at Pennsylvania College of Technology.
The booklet features pages contributed by Michael Bitz, Erica Schroeder, Mark McKenna, Dave Elliott, Jerry Craft, Dave Roman and John Green – some returning from the inaugural Wildcat Comic Con in 2012 and all of them scheduled to make presentations at this year’s daylong conference. Rusty Gilligan, of “The Adventures of Mac and Trouble” fame, who is unable to attend, nonetheless offered his artwork to be included in the program/coloring book.
Additional drawings were contributed by employees of the college’s Madigan Library who were instrumental in organizing the Wildcat Comic Con. The booklet also includes a schedule of the day’s programming, as well as space for presenters’ autographs.
“The program/coloring book idea came about as we tried to come up with something different and memorable – something people would want to keep as a collectible,” explained Joann L. Eichenlaub, assistant director of library services. “As the discussion of ideas flowed, Jean M. Bremigen, library operations/public services manager, suggested contacting the talent coming to this year’s Comic Con to see if they would be willing to contribute an original drawing. From that point, the program/coloring book was born. As the presenters sent in their drawings, Crystal Broscious (a graphic design student who graduated in May) created the layout for the cover of the booklet.”
“The response from the presenters to offer their artwork to be included in this unique program/coloring book is wonderful and a real testament of their dedication and enthusiasm of their profession,” Bremigen said. “Working with them and getting to know them has been one of the most rewarding things about organizing and planning for the Comic Con.”
The publication will be included in “swag bags” of merchandise given to the first 500 pre-registered attendees, provided they check in by 10:30 a.m. on event day. The coloring book/program will be available for purchase by other Comic Con attendees.
Bitz, executive director of the Center for Educational Pathways, is the keynoter for the event. Tim Russ, a member of the “Star Trek Voyager” cast (as well as a musician, director, screenwriter and voice-over artist) will highlight the closing ceremonies.
Admission to the Wildcat Comic Con is an all-inclusive $20 per person (children under 12 are free). Tickets are on sale at the Community Arts Center’s box office site.
