Pennsylvania College of Technology will host a Science Festival on Tuesday, Feb. 25, sponsored by the college and Technology Futures of North Central PA.

The event, scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Penn College Field House, provides a variety of fun, hands-on math and science demonstrations geared toward elementary and middle school students, as well as their families. The experiments are designed to make learning fun and to stimulate children’s interest in math, science and exciting careers in related fields.

Demonstrations will be provided by organizations and companies that have a focus on science, as well as students and faculty from Williamsport Area High School and Penn College. Last year, more than 500 people attended the event, participating in activities on topics as diverse as water creatures and hydrogen-powered vehicles.

A free shuttle bus, running loops from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., will be provided between the Field House and Jackson and Cochran primary schools.

On-campus coordination is being handled by the college’s Outreach for K-12 Office. The festival is paid for by Technology Futures of North Central PA and Penn College. Additional support comes from area businesses through sponsorships. Sponsors include Anadarko Petroleum Corp. and Intrada Technologies.

The local Science Festival is a satellite event of the USA Science & Engineering Festival, the nation’s largest celebration of all things science and engineering.

A preliminary list of participants includes: Anadarko Petroleum Corp., Civil Air Patrol, Discovery Machine, Lycoming College Robotics Group, Lycoming County Conservation District, Primus Technologies, Trout Unlimited and the Williamsport Area School District.

Penn College will have exhibitors from the following academic areas: electrical, business and hospitality, welding, math, physics, forestry and horticulture, and early education.

The snow date for the event is March 4.
