Northern Tier nursing students take part in mock disaster

Licensed practical nursing students from Penn College at Wellsboro served as “patients” for a Sept. 30 emergency drill in Tioga County.

A number of students from the Licensed Practical Nursing Program at Penn College at Wellsboro participated in a drill at the Middlebury Township Dairy Farmers of America milk plant on Sept. 30, simulating a hazardous-material spill with multiple casualties.

Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Pennsylvania College of Technology is offering training to people seeking employment in the natural gas and energy industry. In addition to learning industry employability skills and gaining three industry-recognized certifications, students will be connected to employers who have immediate hiring needs.

UPMC Gift to Support Penn College Nursing Expansion in Wellsboro

The gift of a UPMC Susquehanna-owned property to Pennsylvania College of Technology will enable the college to address workforce and educational needs in the Northern Tier by expanding the nursing program it offers in Wellsboro.

The Penn College Board of Directors on Thursday approved transfer of the 8,400-square-foot facility at 22 Walnut St., Wellsboro, for $1. The agreement is contingent upon the college using the building to expand its Practical Nursing Program in Wellsboro.

An Emergency Medical Technician course, beginning the week of Jan. 8, will be offered at four locations by Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Pennsylvania College of Technology.

The course meets National Emergency Medical Services Educational Standards and Instructional Guidelines and is intended to prepare students for National Registry cognitive and psychomotor examinations at the EMT level.

The course comprises 50 hours of lecture and 100 hours of practical learning. Students will select one of four sites: Penn College’s main campus in Williamsport, Penn College at Wellsboro, Jersey Shore, or Evangelical Community Hospital in Lewisburg.
