'Career Day' Offers Guidance to 1,000 Students Statewide

More than 1,000 students in grades 7-12 from 15 school districts around Pennsylvania will visit Pennsylvania College of Technology on Friday, Oct. 19, to explore a variety of careers ranging from floral design to plastics technology.
The "Career Day" event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with students taking part in activities on the main campus, the Advanced Automotive Technology Center in Williamsport, the Schneebeli Earth Science Center near Allenwood and the Lumley Aviation Center at the Williamsport Regional Airport in Montoursville.
Some other career activities the students will experience include using biological pest controls, analyzing organisms in sewage sludge, calculating forest acreages, designing an Indy racecar with computer-assisted drafting and making plastic bottles.
"Career Day represents the only opportunity that some of these students will have to visit a college campus," noted Ellen S. Auchter, career specialist in Tech Prep at Penn College.
Participating schools include: Bellefonte Area High School, Bermudian Springs High School, Bloomsburg Area High School, Boiling Springs High School, Clearfield Area High School, Columbia-Montour Area Vocational Technical School, Easton Area High School, Harlen Rowe Junior High School, Lake Lehman High School, Line Mountain High School, Milton Hershey Middle School, Milton Middle School, Roosevelt Middle School (Williamsport Area School District), Westmont Hilltop High School and Williams Valley Junior/Senior High School.
