Dates to Remember

AS/400 Routine MaintenanceOct. 8, from 7-9:30 a.m. All AS/400 screens and services, including the Employee Information System and Student Information System, will be unavailable.

Housekeeping Reminders

GroupWise CleanupEmployees, please help us keep GroupWise running efficiently by deleting any unneeded messages. Don't forget your Sent Items and Trash folders, which may be consuming a substantial amount of network file space if they contain messages with file attachments. To see details about the size of your mailbox, click the words "Mailbox Size" along the bottom of your GroupWise window.

Work-From-Home SoftwareITS reminds all employees of software agreements that extend to at-home use. Symantec AntiVirus is available as a free download (you will be required to log in with your network user ID and password). Through a special agreement with Microsoft, employees who work from home on college-related documents can obtain a copy of Microsoft Office 2003 at the ITS Employee Help Desk in ACC, Room 12.

Network-Drive Cleanup TimeStudents and employees, please take a few minutes to delete any old or unnecessary files from your network drives (G, H, P, R, S). File cleanup is always important from a maintenance and backup perspective; however, it's a vital step in preparation for the upcoming Novell-to-Microsoft network conversion. With fewer files to process, the transition will be much easier and quicker for everyone.

E-Mail ScanningPart of the college's virus-protection strategy includes scanning incoming e-mail for certain types of file attachments. Those file types are completely blocked from entering the employee e-mail system (GroupWise) and are scanned for viruses before entering the student e-mail system (NetMail). For a complete list of blocked file types, see our Fight Against Viruses Web page.

Free DownloadsVisit the ITS downloads page for access to free downloads such as Penn College wallpaper, screensaver, calendar and toolbar; free and open-source software such as Ad-Aware, Adobe Reader, FileZilla, Google Toolbar and Thunderbird e-mail software; and specially licensed software (college employees and students only) such as Symantec AntiVirus and Core FTP Lite.
