Campus Activities, Community Service to Honor Martin Luther King

A multimedia presentation, gospel concert and community-service challenge are among the ways that Pennsylvania College of Technology will pay tribute to the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
On Saturday, Jan. 14 two days before the official observation of the federal King holiday the college's students, staff and faculty will participate in a community day of service. Following King's assertion that "Life's most persistent and urgent question is, "˜What are you doing for others?' " the participants will complete various projects with nonprofit agencies in the Williamsport area.
Members of the Penn College community can sign up for the day of service by emailing Student Activities or meeting in Penn's Inn at 9 a.m. for the event kickoff and to receive their assignments.
At 7 that night, the college's Klump Academic Center Auditorium will host "Gospel Explosion 2012," which will feature diverse bands, choirs, soloists and rap artists all with a common goal to build community through gospel music.
"Come out and shout, clap your hands, slap your thighs and stomp your feet to the uplifting and always exciting music of Gospel Explosion!" organizers said in inviting the community to the event.
At 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16 and also in the auditorium the college will host "King's Dream," a live performance/multimedia tribute to the Nobel Peace Prize recipient. With narrative, music and big-screen video images that evoke the turbulent 1960s and the personalities who helped shape the civil rights movement, "King's Dream" will celebrate King's legacy and his vision of tolerance, diversity and peace.
