The Community Arts Center has been awarded a $2,500 grant from Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield that will be used to support the 2022-23 Educational Series program.

The series, offered free since 2007, serves 5,000 to 8,000 students annually from nine school districts in Lycoming and Sullivan counties.

“Highmark is proud to help provide local students free access to high-quality educational programming, as well as enrich their appreciation of the performing arts,” said Katie Kemmerer, regional manager of community affairs for Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Community Arts CenterAs part of its mission, the Community Arts Center offers programming that is appropriate to the diverse interests and needs of the regional audience and priced fairly to assure accessibility to all.

“The generous support from organizations like Highmark is what makes our Educational Series possible,” said Jim Dougherty, the CAC's executive director. “Contributions like this are what allow us to bring thousands of students from Lycoming and neighboring counties into our theater each year to see inspirational performances full of cultural and educational value.”

Funding for the educational programming is derived from various sources, including grants, donations, corporate sponsorships and Educational Improvement Tax Credit Funds.

“Getting this support helps greatly to defray the costs associated with the program, such as artists fees, technical labor and busing,” said Ana Gonzalez-White, the CAC's director of development. “We are very appreciative of Highmark.”
