Black History Month to Be Observed at Penn College

A lineup of comedy, music and commemorative cuisine will be offered as Pennsylvania College of Technology hosts several activities for the campus community and the public in observance of Black History Month.

Comedian Seaton Smith will open the “Icons & Legends” celebration with a free appearance in the college’s Klump Academic Center auditorium at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11. Clyde I. McAllister, a human services student from Williamsport, will be the opening act.

The entertainment continues there with the “Diva Show” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, when Whitney Houston, Tina Turner and Diana Ross all will perform in the person of Joanna Maddox, who delivers a high-energy (yet intimate) evening of music. Treat your sweetheart to a special Valentine’s Day evening and enjoy a free, live show of pop and rhythm-and-blues classics.

Remember the millions of screaming fans, the sequined glove and the Moonwalk? A live, multimedia show celebrating the “King of Pop,” Michael Jackson, will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, in the Academic Center auditorium. Embark on an exhilarating ride in this tribute to a true icon, as “King Michael” sings, dances and mesmerizes the audience.

The schedule concludes with “Soul Food Dinner: A Tribute to African American Entertainers,” to be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, in Penn’s Inn on the second floor of the Bush Campus Center.

In addition to dining, participants are invited to walk the road of Motown, classic funk and R&B as tribute is paid to the biggest names in music, movies, dance and stage. Students can obtain one free ticket with their Penn College ID; the cost is $3 for additional tickets, as well as for faculty/staff and the public. A limited number of tickets are available at the Student Activities information desk on the first floor of the Campus Center.
