'Cat TalesBaseballThe Wildcats had a perfect 5-0 week and built their second eight-game win streak of the spring season with forfeit wins over Penn State New Kensington, a single-game win over Luzerne County Community College and a doubleheader sweep of Penn State York. That left them in the driver's seat for the Penn State University Athletic Conference playoffs later this week. In the first game at Penn State York, Phil Woodring (Waynesboro) went 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in what proved to be the game-winning run in the top of the ninth inning. In the second game, Woodring went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs batted in, Joe Vassallo (Windsor, Conn.) went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Dane Glick (Belleview) went 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Penn College is scheduled to play at King's College on Wednesday, then steps into postseason action Friday at Medlar Field in State College. Tournament seeds and pairings will be announced within the next few days.

SoftballDespite a 5-3 week that put it four games above .500 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference, Penn College is fighting for its postseason playoff life going into a twin bill Monday at Penn State Fayette. Through Saturday's games, it was tied for the fourth and final playoff spot with Penn State Greater Allegheny, both three games behind co-leaders Penn State Hazleton and Penn State Beaver. In two routs of Penn State New Kensington, Lauren Fuller (South Williamsport) went 5-for-7 at the plate with a home run, while Jamye Mease (Elizabethtown) went 5-for-6 with a homer. In their two losses to Penn State Beaver, the Wildcats were limited to three hits in each game.

The PSUAC playoffs are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday at Elm Park in Williamsport. Seeds and pairings are expected to be announced Tuesday.
