Attorneys to Discuss 'Mockingbird'-Inspired Book at Library Forum

In partnership with Lycoming County Big Read 2007, in which residents are reading and discussing Harper Lee's "To Kill a Mockingbird," Pennsylvania College of Technology's Madigan Library will host a public presentation titled "Stand Up Children, Your Father Is Passing" from 10-11 a.m. April 13 in Room 200 of the library.
Kenneth J. Hagreen, director of Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers of Pennsylvania Inc., and Brent A. Petrosky, an attorney in Lock Haven and Coudersport, will speak about "In Search of Atticus Finch," a motivational book for attorneys. Author Mark Papatonio was inspired by Lee's characterization of Finch, a small-town lawyer whose values and ethics underscored the role of the trial lawyer in ensuring civil justice for citizens under the U.S. Constitution.
Lycoming County was selected as one of 72 organizations from across the country to receive a grant to support Big Read programs. The Big Read is a new program by the National Endowment of the Arts, in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest, that encourages literary reading by asking communities to come together to read and discuss one book.
Through a collective reading and interpretation of Lee's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, the county's libraries, schools, colleges, museums, community groups and cultural centers have created a series of programs and events during Spring 2007.
