The American Design Drafting Association recently recognized the excellence of Pennsylvania College of Technology’s engineering CAD technology major with industry recertification.

“Recertification by the ADDA is a very important credential for our program, and we are proud to have earned it annually since 1997,” said Katherine A. Walker, assistant professor of engineering design technology.

Penn College’s engineering CAD technology major was recertified recently by the American Design Drafting Association.Established in 1948, ADDA is the oldest design-drafting association in the world and is recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and other industry groups. Its annual recertification process requires the engineering design technology department to closely examine several aspects of the major, including the curriculum, faculty background, employment placement of graduates and classroom capabilities.

“The recertification serves as a stamp of approval that we are meeting our objectives in providing the best education for our students,” Walker said. “This field is always changing, and the ADDA recognition shows current and prospective students that our graduates are well-equipped to embrace the future.”

The associate-degree major prepares students for mechanical and engineering drafting positions in manufacturing- and engineering-based industries using advanced 2-D and 3-D CAD applications. Graduates can continue their education in the college’s engineering design technology bachelor-degree major, which emphasizes product design and manufacturing processes.

“It is programs such as yours that assure competent design and drafting professionals for the future,” wrote the ADDA in its reclassification letter to the college. “The association’s certification program and the commitment to excellence it represents provide a quality assurance program, which benefits both education and industry.”
