Terry A. GirdonA professor of management and head of the business administration department at Pennsylvania College of Technology recently was honored for his long and significant service to the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education.

During the organization's yearly conference, held March 29 to April 1 in Las Vegas, Terry A. Girdon was presented with The John L. Green Award for Excellence in Business Education. The award annually honors an individual who has made significant contributions that advance the cause of academic quality in business education with specific attention to the IACBE.

Green spent most of his life helping others to achieve excellence in business education, founding two accrediting associations the Association of Business Schools and Programs in 1988 and the IACBE in 1997 that made recognition possible for more than 500 institutions that previously had no specialized accreditation in business.

The award citation notes Girdon's considerable involvement with IACBE: as president of the Middle States Region; his six years of service on the IACBE Board of Commissioners, including three as chair; as chair of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation Task Force that culminated in IACBE's recognition by CHEA in January 2011; and in his current duties as chair of IACBE's Board of Directors.

From its founding in 1997, the assembly one of three business-degree accrediting bodies for colleges and universities worldwide has grown to more than 200 members in the United States and throughout the world.

All of the business and accounting degree programs at Penn College have been fully accredited by the IACBE since 1998.

Girdon holds a doctorate from Rutgers University, master's degrees from St. Lawrence University and Boston University, and a bachelor's degree from the University of Delaware.
