Abplanalp Named Director of North Campus Outreach Services

Brenda G. Abplanalp of Wellsboro has been named director of outreach services at Pennsylvania College of Technology's North Campus.

Abplanalp, a lifelong resident of Tioga County, has more than 15 years' professional experience in education and nursing and more than 11 years' experience in management in the private sector. From 1982-91, she was employed full-time at the North Campus in various roles, including interim director, assistant coordinator of Practical Nursing and Practical Nursing faculty member.

Since 1991, Abplanalp has been business manager at Garrison's Men's Shop, Wellsboro. A registered nurse, Abplanalp worked in nursing in a variety of capacities at Guthrie Clinic, Wellsboro; Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro; and Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, N.Y.

In her new post for the College, Abplanalp will be responsible for coordinating the noncredit programs and services offered at the North Campus. She will also work with the Office of Admissions to represent Penn College across the Northern Tier.

A graduate of Wellsboro Area Senior High School, Abplanalp earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Rochester, School of Nursing, and a master's degree in education from Mansfield University.

The North Campus offers a variety of noncredit, continuing-education programming and workforce-development services. In the past year, more than 60 events (with 2,600 participants) were held at the facility, located on Route 6 between Wellsboro and Mansfield. Penn College administered funding totaling more than $560,000 in the past year for business-and-industry training and youth camps in the Northern Tier.

"We look forward to working with Brenda to expand our noncredit outreach services to the Northern Tier," said Larry L. Michael, associate dean for technology transfer at Penn College. "Brenda will be working closely with community leaders, business and industry, and school districts to coordinate our services."
