Two Students Place in Weekend Martial Arts Event

The Penn College Martial Arts Team traveled to Providence, Rhode Island, this past weekend to take part in the East Coast Collegiate Karate Union camp and tournament. The two-day event included nearly seven hours of training and a competitive tournament. Brown University hosted the event with students from Temple University, Drexel University, University of Massachusetts and Salve Regina University. Penn College participants were Alexander J. Hilton, of Saegertown; Carlos A. Ramos-Sonera, of Highland Mills, New York; Alton J. "A.J." Hinson, of Pottsville; and John B. Preine, of Philadelphia. In the Sunday competition, Hinson placed third in Kumite (sparring), while Ramos-Sonera placed first in Kumite and second in Kata (forms). Penn College will host the next collegiate event during the weekend of Feb. 14-15.
