Students’ Chocolate Houses to Be Auctioned for Habitat for Humanity

Pennsylvania College of Technology will host its annual chocolate house auction on Friday, Dec. 6, to benefit Greater Lycoming Habitat for Humanity.

Eleven chocolate houses, ranging from log cabins and Christmas cottages to reindeer stables and Willy Wonka’s house, will be sold in silent auction at the School of Business & Hospitality’s annual Food Show.

The houses represent the final project for students in the course Principles of Chocolate Works, taught by Monica J. Lanczak, instructor of baking and pastry arts and culinary arts.

In addition to chocolate houses, the Food Show features the final projects of students enrolled in Advanced Garde Manger, Advanced Patisserie Operations, Artistic Buffet Decoration, Cakes and Decorations, Classical Cuisines of the World, Classical and Specialty Desserts, and Sugar Art courses.

Judges this year are Elizabeth Long-Furia, owner of Elizabeth’s An American Bistro, Lewisburg; Tony Sapia, owner of Gemelli Bakers, State College; and Michael Davis, executive chef for Susquehanna Health, Williamsport Regional Medical Center.

The Food Show is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., during which silent bids for the chocolate houses are taken. Winning bids will be revealed at 1 p.m. The event takes place in the Thompson Professional Development Center’s Mountain Laurel Room.
