Student Nurses' Association Earns Statewide Award for Web Site

Pennsylvania College of Technology's Student Nurses' Association recently received an award for Outstanding Web Site at the Student Nurses' Association of Pennsylvania's 55th annual convention.
When conferring the award at the convention, held in Scranton Nov. 14-17, officials noted some of the site's best features include its timely posting of meeting minutes and news.
The minutes typically are posted within days of the meeting, helping to inform students who would like to be actively involved, but who cannot always attend the sessions.
The site, which was built and maintained by chapter Vice President MaryJo Nonnemacher, of Bethlehem, a junior pursuing a bachelor's degree in nursing, was launched in April. It also includes notes about upcoming projects and photos of past events, a newsletter written and produced by SNA chapter members, information about the chapter and its officers, and links to other sites of relevance to nursing students.
"It's a huge honor being recognized at the state level," Nonnemacher said.
Kathleen M. Hendershot, learning lab coordinator for the nursing program and SNA adviser, said the site has served as a valuable communication tool for the student organization, which, while it has existed at Penn College for years, has become very active over the past year.
Hendershot said the site has also been used as a recruitment tool. It is displayed on-screen by Student Nurses' Association members during the college's Open Houses to show prospective students the group's activities.
