Penn College freshman Arika Stopper, of Williamsport, has been named the United States Collegiate Athletic Association and Penn State University Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for the period ending April 27. Stopper – a health arts: practical nursing emphasis student – recorded three of the team’s six wins on the week, allowing only two earned runs and 11 hits while striking out 28. All three wins were complete games. So far this season, Stopper leads the team with a 2.97 ERA with 17 appearances and 10 complete games. She has totaled seven wins and 74 strikeouts. Stopper and the Lady Wildcats travel to Penn State Beaver for a 4 p.m. doubleheader Wednesday.
