Is a rewarding career in nursing in your future? Licensed practical nursing is a high-priority occupation in the Northern Tier region, and according to the Pennsylvania Center for Health Careers, a shortage of more than 10,000 LPNs is predicted statewide for 2015.

The yearlong practical nursing program offered through Workforce Development & Continuing Education for Penn College at Wellsboro prepares graduates for career opportunities in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, personal care facilities and human service organizations. The full-time certificate program is fully approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.

Students attend classes in Wellsboro Area High School and have clinical experiences at Susquehanna Health facilities including Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital and the Green Home. Other long-term care clinical experiences are obtained at Broad Acres Health and Rehabilitation Center and other local health care and health-related facilities.

Successful program completers will be prepared to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). Financial aid is available.

Pre-admission testing is required and is scheduled in July and August for applicants to be considered for the January 2015 class. Pre-admission testing must be completed before the application process begins. All applications for the January class must be submitted by Oct. 1.
