North Campus Medical Assistant Program Honors Graduates

Graduation ceremonies were held May 30 at the Warehouse Theater in Wellsboro for Pennsylvania College of Technology’s North Campus Medical Assistant program.

Ten individuals completed the nine-month training program and are prepared for employment in medical offices, labs, clinics and other health-care facilities.

The student speaker for the event was Kathleen Hemenway, also the recipient of the North Campus Achievement Award for academic excellence.

Instructor Susan Nowak presented medical assistant pins to each graduate. Remarks were offered by the program’s instructors: Nowak, John Delaney, Lucia Lacjsak and Julie Stager. A reception for family and friends was held in the lobby following the ceremony.

The medical assistant students completed 800 hours of classroom instruction followed by a 160-hour externship in local medical clinics, physicians’ offices and the clinical lab at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital.

At the completion of all requirements, students were eligible to take the American Medical Technologists exam for certification as a Registered Medical Assistant and the National Healthcareer Association’s certification exams for Phlebotomy Technician and Billing and Coding Specialist.

The 2013 graduates of the program are: Maureen Bailey and Jennifer Wattles, Wellsboro; Marissa Black and Jenna Martin, Ulysses; Tasha Bradshaw, Tioga; Kathleen Hemenway, Blossburg; Kimberly Kennedy, Lawrenceville; Melinda Kibbe, Harrison Valley; and Kasey Williams and Trina Wilson, Elkland.
