Holocaust Survivor to Address Penn College Audience April 9

Esther Bauer, a Holocaust survivor who speaks to students whenever possible so they will “learn what happened and see to it that it never happens again,” will visit Pennsylvania College of Technology on April 9.
Her free presentation, to be held at 7 p.m. in the Klump Academic Center Auditorium, is sponsored by the college’s Student Activities Office. The public is welcome.
A testament to the indestructibility of the human spirit, Bauer was 18 when she and her parents were deported to a ghetto in what is now the Czech Republic.
Her father died six weeks later of meningitis, and, after two years, Bauer (along with her new husband and mother) was taken to the infamous Auschwitz death camp. Her husband and mother were killed there, but Bauer was transferred to a women’s labor camp in Freiberg and, as allied troops neared, further transported to the Mauthausen concentration camp in Austria.
American soldiers liberated the camp on May 5, 1945, and Bauer has been telling her harrowing story ever since – as well as her message of hope, determination and desire “to live each day, have fun and be a human being.”
