Heart Association Designates College as ‘Fit-Friendly Worksite’

An everyday emphasis on employee health has resulted in a Gold Fit-Friendly Worksite designation for Pennsylvania College of Technology, recognized by the American Heart Association for creating a “culture of wellness” on its campuses.
“We are very pleased to receive this award and the recognition and privileges that come with it,” said LaDonna J. Caldwell, the college’s director of compensation and benefits, and chair of the Wellness Committee. “Thanks to the members of our Wellness Committee for all the help they provide throughout the year to make our Wellness Program a success. And, thanks also to Carmen Terry, Lycoming County Insurance Consortium wellness coordinator, for supporting and submitting our application for this award.”
Penn College’s eight-page application details the institution’s far-reaching attention to co-workers’ health, including indoor and outdoor walking trails, administrative endorsement of workday initiatives, free workout classes, reduced fitness-center rates, numerous health- and fitness-related incentives, nutrition education and healthy options in all campus dining units, convenient diagnostic screenings, online health assessment, and extended employee services at the College Health Center.
The association’s Fit-Friendly program recognizes those who champion the health of their employees and strive to create a culture of physical activity and health in the workplace.
